Overview

This 8-hour workshop delivers the core Design Thinking framework for product development, blending theory, hands-on activities, and organizational scaling strategies. Participants gain practical skills in human-centered design through interactive sessions. The structure fits a standard workday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with breaks for collaboration.

Morning: Foundations (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM, 3.5 hours)

  • Introduction & Empathize (1 hour): Icebreaker, Design Thinking overview with case studies (Apple, Airbnb), and user research via empathy mapping and personas.​
  • Define Phase (1 hour): Synthesize insights into HMW statements, prioritization (MoSCoW matrix), and Problem Canvas creation.​
  • Short Break & Group Activity (1.5 hours): Affinity diagramming and reflection to identify top user insights.​

Afternoon: Ideation to Scaling (1:30 PM - 5:00 PM, 4.5 hours)

  • Ideate & Prototype (2 hours): Brainstorming (SCAMPER, dot voting), rapid low-fidelity prototypes using tools like Figma/Miro.​
  • Test & Iterate (1 hour): User testing techniques (think-aloud, usability metrics), feedback sessions, and iteration.​
  • Scaling & Wrap-Up (1 hour): Organizational adoption strategies, innovation metrics (NPS, CSAT), trends (AI, sustainability), and certification closure.​
  • Includes 30-min lunch and two 15-min breaks for sustained energy.

Product Design Thinking Curriculum

  • Welcome, icebreaker, and participant expectations setting.​
  • Overview of Design Thinking, its origins, and human-centered design principles.​
  • Role of Design Thinking in product strategy and how it complements Agile and Lean.

  • Advanced user research techniques: interviews, surveys, field observation.​
  • Empathy mapping using the Say–Think–Do–Feel framework and affinity diagramming.​
  • Creation of personas and user journeys to identify pain points and unmet needs.​

  • Synthesizing research into clear user needs and insights.​
  • Formulating How Might We statements and applying MoSCoW / Impact–Effort prioritization.​
  • Building a Problem Canvas and highlighting common pitfalls like solution bias and scope creep.​

  • Divergent and convergent thinking principles for creative exploration.​
  • Brainstorming methods: Brainwriting, SCAMPER, Six Thinking Hats, and team ideation.​
  • Shortlisting ideas using dot voting and Pugh matrix to select concepts for prototyping.

  • Low- vs high-fidelity prototypes and when to use each.​
  • Rapid prototyping using paper and digital tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and Miro.​
  • Peer reviews and quick iteration cycles to refine concepts.​

  • User testing techniques: think-aloud, A/B testing, usability metrics.​
  • Capturing qualitative and quantitative feedback to improve prototypes.
